Aquatic Plant Ecotoxicity

Evaluation of substance-induced effects on aquatic macrophytes and microorganisms…

Aquatic plant species range from small unicellular algae to floating and sediment-based macrophytes. The plants are important indicators for effects on aquatic flora and an essential part of most registration dossiers.
With a wide range of aquatic plant species we are confident to find the appropriate GLP test design for your needs.

…with the appropriate species for every requirement
A broad range of unicellular algal species are cultured in-house and available for testing. Studies with the most common test algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata and Desmodesmus subspicatus are most frequent. However, more rare species like Navicula pelliculosa, Anabaena flos-aquae, Synechococcus leopoliensis, Chlorella vulgaris, Ankistrodesmus falcatus, Chlamydomonas rheinhardtii and Dyctiosphaerium pulchellum are also available on request. Additionally, the sea water algae Skeletonema costatum and Phaeodactylum tricornutum are also tested on a regular basis. Please refer to the Marine Ecotoxicity section for details.
For macrophyte testing we offer studies with in-house bred Lemna gibba, Lemna minor and Myriophyllum spicatum. The latter can be tested sediment-free or with sediment. For details about sediment tests, please refer to the Sediment Organism section.

…in a study design that fits the substance properties
We are experienced in handling difficult substances like volatile and instable items in aquatic media. Test solution preparation procedures and media renewal intervals can be adapted to provide the best possible conditions for the respective test. Our portfolio contains GLP tests on algae acute toxicity (acc. to OECD 201 / EC C.3, OCSPP 850.4500), Lemna acute toxicity (acc. to OECD 221 / EC C.26), Myriophyllum toxicity sediment-free (acc. to OECD 238) and Myriophyllum toxicity with sediment (acc. to OECD 239).

…and reliable and sensitive analytical services.
In-house analytical monitoring is possible in all relevant compartments such as water, pore water and sediment.
We offer in-house state-of-the-art highly sensitive accompanying chemical analytics using LC-MS/MS or LC-QTOF. With more than 30 years of experience, we can analyze a wide range of active ingredients as well as degradation products. All chemical methods are fully validated following the most recent guidelines and specifications of regulatory authorities (SANCO/3029/99 rev. 4, SANCO/3030/99 rev. 4).

You matter.
All our studies are conducted under GLP and supported by a broad range of experience in scientific work on a large variety of substances such as chemicals, plant protection products or fragrances and flavours. We strive for complete transparency and a close communication during the course of your studies. Monthly status updates, guaranteed testing slots and real-time updates are only some examples of our customer service.
