Fish Ecotoxicity

Responsible and reliable vertebrate testing of substances…

Aquatic vertebrate ecotoxicity testing of substances is a necessary requirement for many regulatory acts like REACH and Korea REACH but also for dossiers for the registration of herbicides, plant protection products and biocides. Our study portfolio contains the whole range of acute to early life stage tests with warm water and cold water fish under GLP. We are happy to assist you developing the optimal study design for your test item.

…under strict legislation
All vertebrate studies underlie the German Animal Welfare Act and have to be approved by the authorities beforehand. The number of used fish is kept to the minimum that is possible to conduct valid studies. Holding and keeping of fish at the facility is evaluated by the veterinary authorities and the animal welfare inspector on a regular basis.

…with the appropriate species
Studies can be conducted with a variety of warm and cold water fish species from the relevant guidelines. Our in-house breeding of Zebrafish (Danio rerio), Fathead Minnow (Pimephales promelas) and Medaka (Oryzias latipes) provides reliable populations. Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio), Brown Trout (Salmo trutta) and Bluegill Sunfish (Lepomis macrochirus) can be procured if required. Noack also offers studies with a range of marine test species such as Turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) and Sheepshead Minnow (Cyprinodon variegatus). For details, please refer to the Marine Aquatic Ecotoxicity section.

…from screenings to higher tier levels
Whereas short-term acute toxicity tests are still of high importance for regulatory processes, the need for long-term higher tier studies like early life stage tests is increasing rapidly. Our portfolio contains all relevant GLP study types, like fish acute toxicity (acc. to OECD 203 / EC C.1), fish embryo toxicity (acc. to OECD 236), fish short-term embryo and sac-fry stage toxicity (acc. to OECD 212), fish early life stage toxicity (acc. to OECD 210), fish juvenile growth test (acc. to OECD 215) and fish Microbial Pesticide test (acc. to OPPTS 885.4200).
Bioaccumulation studies with Zebrafish and Rainbow Trout are essential parts of the PBT assessment and are also part of our study portfolio. For more information, please refer to the Environmental Fate section.
Testing of endocrine disruptor activity of substances according to OECD 229, 230 and 234 is available with the species Zebrafish, Fathead Minnow and Medaka.

…including up-to-date analytical services in all required matrices
In-house analytical monitoring is possible in all relevant compartments such as water, organisms or organism compartments.
We offer in-house state-of-the-art highly sensitive accompanying chemical analytics using GC-MS, LC-MS/MS or LC-QTOF. With more than 30 years of experience, we can analyze a wide range of substances and degradation products. All chemical methods are fully validated following the most recent guidelines and specifications of regulatory authorities (SANCO/3029/99 rev. 4, SANCO/3030/99 rev. 4).

You matter.
All our studies are conducted under GLP and supported by a broad range of experience in scientific work on a large variety of substances such as chemicals, plant protection products or fragrances and flavours. We strive for complete transparency and a close communication during the course of your studies. Monthly status updates, guaranteed testing slots and real-time updates are only some examples of our customer service.
